Merry Christmas
Continuing our usual efforts, we have again decided that this year
we shall dispense with sending out printed, Wymondham-themed Christmas
cards to our Clients and favoured business contacts and once more to
donate the costs of those cards and the postage to a charity.
This year, we've moved back to doing something for Norwich's
homeless and have chosen the the
St. Martins Housing Trust who asked for £5 Boots gift vouchers so
that the temporary residents of
Bishopbridge House can indulge themselves with some cosmetics or
toiletries or whathaveyou. When we handed them over earlier this
month, we also gave them some tins of chocolates for the communal
areas.
As always, we couldn't completely dispense with some form of
Christmas greeting so we've put together
this Virtual Christmas
Card instead.

Web Designersare now reselling vBulletin software to
create online communities and discussion forums. We can also host such
discussion fora on our partner servers.

MotorcyclePrizes.com
Towards the end of the month, we'll be launching
MotorcyclePrizes.com - a
site where you can win a motorcycle for the princely sum of £10!
The Client is currently completing the body for the site and
setting up the first competitions, but we've been asked to
'soft-launch' the site in the meantime.

Domain Registry Services
This is the same mob as the March 2004 update.
They've been sending out letters that would indicate that domain
names should be renewed with them "to ensure service continues
uninterrupted." Of course, that is the case with domain names
we've registered on our Clients' behalf where they renew with us. But
should one of our clients renew with Domain Registry Services, the
opposite would apply.
Cambridgeshire Trading Standards are once more aware of this having received
dozens of reports and they're also relaying callers to DC Faro at
Cambridgeshire police on 01480 456111.
If you receive such a demand, you should consider adding to the
numbers of complaints against them by reporting them, especially if
they've managed to persuade you to part with any money.
If you're in Cambridge, why not pop in an see them at Office 6,
154 Church End, Cambridge or telephone them on 0870 950 0369?
Nominet, who handle all .uk domain names, have also issued
this warning (click to see their Press Release).
March 2004
EU Registry Services
This bunch of charmers, who've been sending out Spam saying they
can accept registration requests for .eu domain names when they
presently cannot, have apparently decided to borrow a trick from our
'friends' the Domain Registry of America (see below):
they've sent out a series of letters headed "DOMAIN EXPIRATION
NOTICE" and "DO NOT IGNORE THIS NOTICE"
demanding payment for renewal of existing domain names.
Nowhere in the letter does it say that 'renewing' with them
actually means transferring the domain names to their control. Even
their "Terms of Registration" points to a (presently) non-existent web
site.
Cambridgeshire Trading Standards are aware of this having received
dozens of reports and they're also relaying callers to DC Faro at
Cambridgeshire police on 01480 456111.
If you receive such a demand, you should consider adding to the
numbers of complaints against them by reporting them.

Happy New Year!
Domain Registry of America
We start with some good news about these people
who send out letters well in advance of their domain names expiring suggesting
companies and individuals renew those domains with them (they're also trading as
"Domain Registry of Europe").
Well the Federal Trade Commission in the States has obtained a
judgment against them prohibiting them from misleading consumers and
forcing them to provide redress to up to 50,000 consumers misled in
this way.
The full story is on the FTC's web site at
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/12/domainreg.htm.
